1973 Gibson SG Standard (Pre-owned)
A fantastic original early-1970s Gibson SG Standard with a slim neck profile and 1 9/16" nut width. It's in excellent condition for its age, showing only a few small bumps and marks consistent with over 50 years of careful use.
At some point in its life the guitar had a Bigsby vibrato fitted. This has since been professionally removed, with the mounting holes neatly filled and finished to a very high standard. The earth wire exits behind the current tailpiece, suggesting the Bigsby may have been installed from new. A cover plate has been made for the area, although it currently looks great without it fitted.
The guitar was refretted in 2014 with Dunlop 6150 fret wire and has seen very little playing since, leaving the frets in excellent condition. The electronics appear original, with pots dated to the 51st week of 1972, which places the guitar’s assembly around 1973.
Key original features include the ebony fingerboard, Tarback humbuckers and original tuners, pots and knobs. The tailpiece fitted is a Kluson item. The neck pickup ring shows a crack on the treble side, but it remains stable and holds the pickup securely.
The guitar has recently been serviced and professionally set up with 10–46 strings by respected guitar technician Martyn Booth, who also carried out the refret work. It is lively and resonant when played acoustically and delivers the powerful, classic SG tone.
