1936 Gibson L-7 Archtop Sunburst

Here we have a fine example of a pre-war Gibson L-7, dating from 1936 and representing one of the most desirable periods of the model's production. Featuring a 17" hand-carved spruce top, carved maple back and sides, Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, inlaid pearl Gibson script headstock logo and the distinctive pre-war 'banjo-style' fingerboard inlays, this is a lovely archtop with a wonderfully open, resonant acoustic voice.

The guitar remains in very good condition for its age, retaining its original finish throughout. As would be expected of an instrument approaching ninety years old, there are numerous small marks, scuffs and signs of general play wear across the body, together with some wear to the back of the neck from years of use.
In the interests of complete accuracy, we believe the pickguard is a later replacement, although we cannot be certain. The Grover machine heads appear to be period-correct; however, the gear wheels appear to have been replaced at some stage during the guitar's life. There is also evidence that an alternative set of tuners was fitted at one time, with small witness marks visible on the rear of the headstock.
