2003 Hofner Jazzica Natural Archtop (Pre-owned)
This is a particularly lovely example of the Höfner Jazzica Custom, made in Germany in 2003. The Jazzica Custom was one of Höfner’s finest archtop models and was produced in relatively small numbers, making these increasingly difficult to find today.
It has a solid carved spruce top, figured maple back and sides and a one-piece maple neck, with ebony used for the fingerboard, bridge, tailpiece and pickguard. The combination of traditional archtop construction and Höfner’s own design touches gives the Jazzica a character that is quite different from the more familiar American archtops.
Acoustically, it has a wonderfully warm and resonant voice, with plenty of clarity and projection, while the floating Höfner humbucker produces the smooth, rounded jazz tones you'd expect when plugged in. The 25¼" scale and comfortable neck also make it a very enjoyable guitar to play, and the 24-fret fingerboard provides unusually good access to the higher frets.
In excellent condition, with remarkably little evidence of its age. It is also completely original.
The Jazzica Custom was eventually discontinued as a regular production model, and examples in this sort of condition are becoming increasingly hard to come across. This is a beautiful, understated and very individual German archtop that should appeal to both the serious jazz player and anyone looking for something a little different.
Supplied with original Höfner hard case.
